Last month, Apple had quietly added the 17-inch polycarbonate iMac model for educational institutions. Now, Apple has again smoothly replaced the 17-inch iMac model with a 20-inch aluminum body iMac.
The replacement 20-inch iMac model will be available for the same price - $899 (Rs. 46,000 approx.) - as that of the 17-inch polycarbonate iMac. The aluminum body 20-inch iMac has a glossy LCD screen and is equipped with a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB DDR3 1066MHz RAM, and 160GB HDD for storage.
This 20-inch iMac model for educational institutions also packs in Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics, also found in the unibody MacBook and MacBook Pro. For connectivity, AirPort Extreme (802.11n) is available with a FireWire 800 port and four USB 2.0 ports. It also features the SuperDrive feature and built-in iSight camera.
The 17-inch polycarbonate iMac has been offered since 2006, and now finally is being replaced. Check out the new price list for educational institutions here (PDF).
As AppleInsider reported, this 20-inch iMac will start shipping in four weeks and won't be available for students or faculties.
