Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to release 7 games in India

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has plans to release seven games in the Indian market this year. Additionally, the company will also foray into the regional space by launching India-specific games to woo the local gamers.

"Although content is important, language is equally important to seek penetration. Hence we are developing games in local languages to expand our gamer base in local areas too. Instead of giving International content in Indian languages, we are developing customised content for the Indian audience which will be available in various regional languages," says Sony Computer Entertainment country manager (play station) Atindriya Bose. These games will be developed for both Play Station 2 (PS2) and Play Station Portable (PSP).

"Bangalore-based Candela Software has developed two games with educational flavour. Titled 'World Quiz', the quiz-based game covers topics on History, Geography, etc. The other game 'Joint Entrance Quiz' is especially developed for gamers to prepare for their engineering and medical entrance exams," adds Bose. These games are available on PS2 in English.

"Hyderabad-based Gameshastra is developing four games namely Kabaddi, Kite Flying. Gilli Danda and Garba on the Indian rural tradition," says Bose. These games will be available on both PS2 and PSP and will be available in three Indian languages in addition to English. "We have confirmed on Hindi and Tamil and are still debating on which the third language would be. Most probably it will be Punjabi," avers Bose.

All the games will be launched by Diwali or by the year end. "The PS 2 games are priced at Rs 499 and we are yet to decide on the price for the PSP," says Bose.
